EFSA Approves Four Albion Ingredients

06/11/2008

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich.—The Human Products Division of Albion announced the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) OK’d four more Albion bisglycinate chelates—calcium, magnesium, zinc and copper—for use in the European Union (EU). Albion filed with the European Commission’s Panel on Food Additives, Flavourings, Processing Aids and Materials in Contact with Food for a scientific opinion. The panel concluded Albion’s calcium bisglycinate and magnesium bisglycinate as sources for these minerals and when added to foods for particular nutritional uses and food supplements they posed no safety concern; zinc bisglycinate chelate used in foods intended for the general population, foods for particular nutritional purposes and in food supplements posed no safety concerns; and copper bisglycinate as used in food supplements was not a safety concern. Albion’s ferrous bisglycinate chelate (Ferrochel®) was previously found by the panel to be safe for all purposes, including infant formula.
